CPR & AED Training Being offered to Our Coaches! We've all seen the headlines that make our hearts fall to our stomachs. It recently made headlines again, as Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills ,forced the nation to focus on the unthinkable - young, healthy, and fit athletes suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.
Damar Hamlin attributes his survival to the medical personnel that rushed out onto the field and immediately initiated medical protocol. CPR and the use of the AED saved his life. The 24 year old safety has not been the only athlete making the headlines. There have been more athletes from multiple sports that have suffered from sudden cardiac arrest. You can find several here: https://www.si.com/fannation/college/cfb-hq/ncaa-football/college-football-player-cardiac-arrest https://www.heart.org/en/news/2023/01/04/nfl-players-cardiac-arrest-was-a-triggering-traumatic-event-for-many https://usafootball.com/suddencardiac/ https://abcnews.go.com/US/air-force-football-player-dies-after-suffering-medical/story?id=96372797 Most recently, was an article of a mother of a cheerleader saving her own daughter's life at a cheer Competition. You can read the story here: Cheerleader, 17, has cardiac arrest at sports event. Her mom saves her life. The BIG takeaway from these articles is that taking immediate action is necessary to save a life. Called by these headlines, the Association recently invited all FLFA Coaches to receive CPR and AED training, by local medical professionals. We are grateful for the time and dedication the coaches are giving to be officially trained and receive certification by the American Heart Association. We look forward to giving our FLFA Athletes and Families even more peace of mind, as we plan on holding another coaches training night in April. If you are a coach that is interested in receiving training, paid for by the Association, please contact Coach Andrew Flax at andrewflax@optimum.net.
